Because I have a glass top/ceramic stove top, I use the Presto canner. This canner is not as heavy as the American Canner.
If I had a gas stove top, I would own this canner.
- Available in a variety of sizes
- Made in the USA
- No rubber gaskets to replace
- Reputation and durability
Canning Jars & Lids
Ball® Glass Mason Jars can be purchased from many places. These glass jars are great for canning, storing dry goods, crafts and anything else you need a container for.
- They clean up great
- Since they are glass, they are BPA free
- Made in the USA
I use this chopper in my kitchen. It works great for chopping veggies for dehydrator. (Read the 35 reasons I love my dehydrator) I have chopped onions, potatoes, apples, strawberries, garlic, bell peppers, celery and the list goes on. I like how easy it is to use and clean.
My dehydrator didn’t come with all the extras when I bought it 10+ years ago, but I would buy another one in a minute. I like it because:
- it doesn’t take up much space
- it has a temperature guage
- it is expandable

When canning jams and jellies, I think this is a must. The stainless steel makes it super easy to clean.
I love this juicer because its stainless steel and SUPER. I mean SUPER easy to clean. You will need a handled scrub brush to clean the mesh strainer because the blades will do serious damage.
Just as a pre-cautional side note: the picture here shows a full apple being used in the juicer. It is big enough to put an apple in the shoot, but I read that apple seeds are toxic if “juiced”, I always core my apples and put them in the juicer last to help “clean” up any remaining good stuff.
Mylar Bag Sealer & Accessories
The Mormon Church uses impulse sealers for their group food storage events and they get a lot of wear and tear. That was a good enough recommendation for me to buy one. The impulse sealer is heavy, but easy to use. If you purchase an impulse sealer, you will also need to buy oxygen absorbers and mylar bags.
I cut the pouches in half and seal three of the sides. Add my Dry products, drop in an Oxygen Packet and seal the 4th size. The mylar bag doesn’t “remove” the oxygen like a traditional vacuum sealer. The Oxygen Packet is used to draw out the oxygen. I store dry ingredients like flour, beans, rice, etc.
Be careful with egg noodles, they have a tendency to mold. It is recommended to put pouches in large 5 gallon buckets to help when moving your food storage and also keeps critters from trying to eat through the bags. (I know, it grossed me out too.
Pots, Pans & Bakeware
Lodge brand, made in the USA. If you turn over and find their markings on the bottom of the pan, you know you have quality. I snatch these up when I find them.
Your cast iron must be seasoned, once seasoned you do not use soap when washing.
Instructions to season the cast iron came with the pan when I bought mine. There are a ton of different sizes, shapes and uses. These also can be used on a campsite fire so if the SHTF scenario presents itself, grab a few on the way out of the kitchen.
What can I say about Le Creuset that hasn’t already been said? I LOVE my Le Creuset Dutch oven. Yes, they are heavy, solid and expensive. But, they come in beautiful colors, various sizes and shape, cook everything evenly, and conveniently transfer from the stove top to the oven.
I lucked out and found it on sale at the outlet mall. Le Creuset will last a lifetime and you can pass them along to your offspring. I have a couple of small bakeware/casserole dishes and love them too for their quick and easy cleanup and just the right size for a special treat for two.
I found a Made in the USA bread loaf pan. I bought one to “test” and was so impressed, I bought 3 more. I noticed they also have bakeware. I bought two. I haven’t tried cookies in them yet, but my roasted potatoes rock. And the little grooves help keep the potatoes out of the “extra” oil.
